Converted at age seven, J.R. Church set out with one main goal in life – to win others to Jesus Christ. J. R. was raised in Sunday School and church and upon graduation from Lubbock High School in 1957, he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he received his formal Bible education at Tennessee Temple University. In 1992, he received a B.A. degree with a major in Bible and a minor in history. In 2001, he was given an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Immanuel Baptist Theological Seminary in Peachtree, Georgia. His love for history gave him insight into God’s great “Plan of the Ages” and prompted him to pursue this field of prophetic research.
J.R. and Linda were married for 52 years. They have two children and five grandchildren: their daughter, Terri Jeanne and her son, Matthew live in Denison, Texas; their son, Jerry and his wife, Robin, with their three daughters, Brittany, Sarah and Molly, and son, Jordan, live in Oklahoma City.
In 1964, J.R. organized Western Hills Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, where he served as pastor for 17 years, building a large bus ministry and Christian school. During the 1970s his interest turned toward prophetic research and television as a means of sharing his studies with others.
In 1979, he moved his family to Oklahoma City and over the years, has developed the PROPHECY IN THE NEWS ministry. He has traveled across America many times lecturing on eschatology – the study of prophetic subjects. He has hosted several tours to Israel and the Middle East.
J.R. has authored several books. His first was Hidden Prophecies in the Psalms. Over 250,000 copies of the Psalms book have been distributed, not only in the United States, but in other countries as well. It has been translated into the Korean, Dutch, and Finnish languages. Hidden Prophecies in the Song of Moses, a sequel to the Psalms, discusses the life and end-time writings of Moses. Another book, Guardians of the Grail, has also become a “best seller.” It tells of European political intrigue, the rise of the Antichrist and the move toward a global New World Order. Other books include They Pierced the Veil – a commentary on the twelve Minor Prophets; The Mystery of the Menorah and the Hebrew Alphabet – a prophetic view of the seven golden candlesticks, along with a study in the mystical meanings of Hebrew letters; and On The Eve of Adam– a study of the types and metaphors used in the Old Testament that set forth God’s Plan of the Ages. J. R.’s last book was entitled, Daniel Reveals the Bloodline of the Antichrist, already a highly recognized study on the mysteries revealed to the Old Testament prophet Daniel.
The ministry publishes a full-color monthly magazine on prophetic research, also entitled PROPHECY IN THE NEWS, as well as a syndicated television broadcast which airs on stations across the country and via satellite network to most of the United States. The weekly broadcast can also be seen over the internet at www.prophecyinthenews.com, and as a free downloadable podcast in the iTunes store. Prophecy in the News also produces a daily prophetic webcast, also available on the ministry’s website.
Before he went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2011 after a three year battle with cancer, J.R. Church was convinced that Jesus Christ would return soon. Though he never approved of date-setting, he felt the return of the Jews to their Promised Land was the single greatest prophetic fulfillment, an event that launched the march towards the “last days.” He was convinced that the only hope for this sin-cursed world lies in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. The return of the Son of God will bring true peace and the prosperity to the human race. There really is a utopia in the future – in Jesus Christ! That is our blessed hope, so keep looking up!
